Connaught Colleges Athletics :
Daire Farrell again proved peerless in Connaught when he did the double of winning both the Intermediate 400 & 800 metres titles in Athlone on May 18th. Daire's time of 1.55.2 in the 800 shattered the old Provincial record. Cathal McElgunn also excelled in the same age group taking 2nd place in the 400mts hurdle, and 3rd in the 400. A 3rd Intermediate boy Cian Murray was unlucky to just miss a major placing, finishing 4th in the 1500 metres. Well done also to one of our younger athletes David bruen who finished a highly creditable 7th in the Boys Junior 1500 metres event.
All-Ireland Cookery success:
Congratulations to 2 year student Maria Byrne who took first place in the All-Ireland “Take away my way” cookery competition held in St. Angela’s College, Sligo in early May. The competition was run in conjunction with Safefood.
Maria’s winning healthy take-away dish consisted of a quorn burger on wholemeal bap, with oven chips and a tossed salad.
