Let and Key Programme
8 years ago our school was invited to become involved in these two projects. Let is for 1st years and Key is geared towards the 14-16 age group - in our case, 2nd years.The programmes were set up to foster co-operation between students of different traditions from North and South.
36 students take part in the Key Programme
12 from a Catholic School in Northern Ireland;
12 from a non-Catholic School in the North;
12 from a school in the Republic.
30 students participate in the Let Program (10 each from the same categories as above)
The students are brought together for residentials in centres in Northern Ireland. We have been to the Share Centre in Lisnaskea, Garten Centre outside Letterkenny, Draperstown and Gortatone Activity Centrers
Key has three 3-day residentials and one 5-day, with a graduation ceremony in Belfast. Let has three 3-day residentials and a "cultural day" in an area of interest on either side of the Border.
The students take part in Enterprise Training and Outdoor Pursuits which are jointly run by Young Enterprise Northern Ireland and Junior Achievement in the South.Funding is provided by the International Fund for Ireland.
Our Key co-ordinator is Mrs. Attracta Beirne and Mr. Joseph Bambrick is the co-ordinator of Let. Our students have really enjoyed taking part in these programs and 3 years ago one of our Key participants (Deirdre Dolan) was nominated to go to Canada as a result of her outstanding contribution to the programme.
