2TY3 - So Far

Tune in

2TY3 is the name of the Transition Year radio station. It was decided on by an almost unanimous vote. The TY stands for Transition Year while the 23 stands for the original number of students in the year.
The radio station in itself is unique in that it is for students by students. It is also unique as it is the only station to be broadcast by a secondary school worldwide. We hope you enjoy listening to us and we hope that you continue to do so in the future.

Aims, Objectives and Mission Statement

  • We aim to provide a radio station for teenagers by teenagers.
  • We aim to produce and present radio shows to be broadcast through the internet.
  • We aim to provide a mix of talk and music programmes to cater for the diversity of tastes of our audience.
  • We aim to give local businesses an outlet to advertise.
  • We aim to make a profit to fund TY initiatives.

The station was initially set up as a part of our Media Studies course. We were separated into groups and began broadcasting half-hour shows at lunch time to the school. The shows were a success and each group made money through advertising. As a result we decided to set our sights to bigger and better things.
